Some of the cloud platforms will be moving. This vertical phase will require several well aimed, well timed rocket jumps to the various cloud platforms. Grab the rocket part and look up (first person view). The final lava island has the lone red tool box you will need for the next phase. There is a water fountain of sorts midway through the lava boat trip, just try to avoid the rocks, or Mario will sink the boat and start cooking in his own juices. Note that this boat handles much faster forward than backward, so use the spray sparingly when you are opting to go forward. The end of the first third of this mini-stage is marked by the platform with a constant stream of water (for refilling the waterpack), a second 1-up in a box, and a speedier version of the Noki Bay boat. Do not worry about running out of water Mario will mostly likely die long before he does run dry. This way, when you approach the platform, the spikes will have retracted for Mario to land safely. When you do have to land on a spiked platform (past the 1-up will be the first of many times), try to take off after the spikes have protruded for one second or so. Take off soon afterwards, or you will get roasted. Simply aim the water streams (move back or forward, never turn) while in Hover mode and land when the platform is extinguished. Given that the safe/unsafe states of the spiked platforms are not under your control, you will probably prefer flaming platforms instead. If Mario hoses down a flaming platform, it will be safe to land on for five seconds, then the platform will relight and roast Mario. The spike platforms alternate between "safe" and "lethal" on a timed basis. Either platform will kill Mario instantly (from accumulated damage) if he lands on it while dangerous. There are two types of platforms inside the volcano - spiked and flaming. You will be operating primarily with the Hover and Rocket nozzles, but the Turbo Nozzle will not be seen. This stage is simple and straightforward, however, if the lava is touched, you will lose a life automatically. Whether you come out victorious or not, Delfino Plaza will be not be flooded anymore, and you can re-enter Corona Mountain.įollow Shadow Mario, but once you're in Corona Mountain, you will need to do some lava hopping in order to progress. When you enter Delfino Plaza after clearing the final Shadow Mario episode, the whole town will be flooded, so simply chase him (in the back of the town) and enter Corona Mountain behind the highest pond on the hill, no longer blocked by a gate.
